The Johns Clan goes to Europe

Yay!!!! I am finally caught up enough to share pictures from the epic Johns family trip to Europe we took this summer!!! I have been so excited to share my pictures for such a long time but had quite a few posts I needed to catch up on before I began on this trip. So without further adieu ....

This past July, every single member of my immediate family, there are 19 of us to be exact, went on a Disney cruise to Europe! We began in Denmark, visited Norway, Iceland, Scotland and ended in England. It was beyond words, everything we saw was gorgeous, and getting to spend three whole weeks 24/7 with my family was the BEST, and of course there was all the Disney magic that was happening every day. It was the perfect vacation!

We had kids ranging in age from 1 year old to 17, and, for most, it was their first time to Europe which meant their first time flying for a million hours and their first time experiencing the joys of jet lag ....

All of the kids did AMAZING on the plane. Their parents had done a spectacular job of packing tons of fun activities to do, plus there were endless movies on the plane. The real exhaustion hit when we made it to the Copenhagen airport after two plane rides. But instead of complaining or being grumpy, the kids just laid down and took naps while the adults wrangled all the luggage off the carrousel.

We had a lot of luggage to collect ....

Finally we were off to our hotel! Little miss V sure knows how to travel in style!

When we got to the hotel, we all checked in and then immediately headed up to our rooms to take naps. After traveling to Europe for over 20 years, I have perfected the get-over-jet-lag-as-fast-as-possible-but-not-feel-horrible-while-doing-so routine. After traveling for over 24 hours, your going to be tired, your going to be miserable, you'll probably have a headache, and you will want to lay down and stretch out after being cramped on an airplane for hours. For the first 10 years of Europe travel, we always tried to stay awake until bed time, which was absolute torture. Then we tried going to sleep for the night right when we got to the hotel, which never worked because we would wake up starving in the middle of the night and wouldn't be able to go back to bed.

So, the perfect solution is to have about a two hour nap right when you get to the hotel, so you don't feel as if you are upon death's doorstep. Then have dinner at the hotel, then go to sleep for the rest of the night. You will wake up feeling refreshed and at a reasonable hour, not in the middle of the night.

The above formula didn't work so well with the kids ... they were still pretty exhausted when it was time for dinner.... but they handled it pretty well ....

Next up, our fun adventures from Copenhagen! We arrived in Denmark two days early to see some of the sights before boarding our Disney cruise. We jam packed those two days so full of fun things ...
